Trekking in “Dragonlake”- Mount Timfi - Epirus, Northern Greece
Overview

The eerie beauty of Greece’s alpine landscapes, snow capped in the winter and luscious green in the summer, are one of a kind and with many tales and legends having been inspired.

Especially, the lakes have been associated with many stories of legendary animals that once lived in their waters. Local people call them “Dragon Lakes” (Drakolimnes) because according to the myth monsters tossied stones at each other, thus creating the unique landscapes and lakes. Every mythical serpent lake, bears the name of the monstert that made it.

These lakes are in difficult to-reach areas , for the most part on the Pindus mountain extend at Epirus and West Macedonia. Nature lovers appreciate their exceptional magnificence, however researchers –believe that they are remainders of the Ice Age – are attracted to the lakes to study their intriguing blend of minerals that can be found in their waters and additionally to investigate their unusual ecosystems.
