Ionian Islands Sailing Journey: Discover Greece  through a unique sailing journey.

Ionian island holidays are full of history, boasting deep blue seas, rare wildlife, densely forested islands as well as an amazing local cuisine. Sailing in the Ionian sea [Greece’s western archipelagos]  is a pretty unique experience of its own. From the cosmopolitan island of Kefalonia and the surfer’s paradise that is the island of Lefkas, we invite you to take a 3200 year detour through time to Ithaca, island home of Ulysses and arguably one of the most charming places in Western Greece. This Ionian Island sailing journey goes far beyond mere island hopping, giving you a chance to explore way beyond each island’s marina, as well as immerse in local culture, savor the local flavors and learn a thing or two about the history of this immensely beautiful part of the world.

Day to Day Itinerary

 Day 1: Lefkas island Meganisi island

Your day starts at Aktion International Airport. We pick you up and head south towards the Island of Lefkas and its marina,starting point of our sailing adventure in the Ionian Islands. Late afternoon we board the boat and set sails south towards the island of Meganisi, northern part of Ulysses’ kingdom according to Homer’s Odyssey. We arrive at the tiny island, with its pristine beaches and laid back atmosphere, before sunset.

Day 2: Meganisi island Ithaca island

In the morning there’s time for a swim or you can opt to explore the island a bit more. Our next destination is the town of Vathi, on the island of Ithaca, famous for its amazing swimming spots, local delicacies and for inspiring epic poems. Vathi is nestled in a green bay, surrounded by lush countryside, beautiful beaches and even boasts a rather lively nightlife. We get there late afternoon and you’re free to explore the town, swim or chill on the deck, till hunger kicks in and it’s time for a delicious taverna meal.

Day 3: Ithaca island Atokos island Ithaca island

About fifteen nautical miles east of Vathi is tiny Atokos, an uninhabited privately owned island that welcomes visitors who come for swimming or snorkelling in its magnificent waters. There’s two buildings on the island, a small chapel and a two storey house and you’re welcome to roam around and explore. If you bring your snorkeling gear, keep in mind that the rocky beaches around the island are full of mediterranean sea life. Late afternoon we leave the island behind us and set sails west, back to Ithaca. This time we won’t angkor at Vathi, but near a quiet island beach. As the sun sets, we prepare a delicious BBQ on the beach.

Day 4: Ithaca island Kefalonia island

After breakfast and a morning swim we board the boat and set sails west towards the nearby island of Kefalonia and the charming fishing village of Agia Efimia. Along the way we stop at another beach for a swim and some relaxation under the sun, and we get to Agia Efimia in the early evening. There’s plenty to do in and around the village, the food scene is great and the locals are welcoming and warm when it comes to hospitality. There’s a few bars, shops and an array of seaside restaurants and coffee places so we urge you to get lost in the town and get a taste of local life.

Day 5: Kefalonia’s Fiskardo fishing village

We leave Agia Efimia late morning and set sails towards Fiskardo, a true highlight of any trip to the Ionian islands. On the way there, we stop for an afternoon swim and arrive at our destination late afternoon or early evening. Fiskardo is a fishing village on the northernmost tip of the island of Kefalonia. The tiny settlement has been inhabited for at least 25 centuries and nowadays is a popular destination for travelers who appreciate modern amenities, traditional architecture and rather quiet island life.

Day 6: Fiskardo Sivota Bay

The day is dedicated to relaxation in the fishing village of Fiskardo. Swim, roam the alleyways, taste local delicacies, interact with locals. Options are endless. The sailing boat is at your disposal should you choose to explore the surrounding coves and we can recommend some amazing swimming spots accessible by boat. Early evening we set sails east, towards the island of Lefkas. This time our destination is the bay of Sivota, a quiet village on the south part of the island. We drop angkor and head to a seaside tavern for dinner.

Day 7: Sivota Bay Lefkas town

After breakfast we leave Sivota behind and sail along the coastline of the island. Midday we stop at one of the numerous bays for a swim. As the day goes away, we navigate the boat towards the town of Lefkas, where we drop angkor in the marina and you are free to head out and explore. Lefkas is immensely popular year round and there’s plenty of things to see, savor and enjoy.

Day 8: Lefkas Aktion International Airport

In the morning we pack our bags and bid farewell to the sailing boat that’s been our home for the past week. We transport you to the Aktion International Airport and our adventure ends.

Important Tips

  • Travel Bite date and/or time might be modified or cancelled due to weather conditions and in this event the option of an alternative date or full refund will be given.
  • Being as light as possible is always important on an adventure tour plus space is limited on board a sailing boat so, our travellers are expected to bring with them a backpack or suitcase as well as a daypack for personal items and valuables.
  • We strongly advise you to have a valid Personal Travel & Health Insurance and bring your personal medication, sunscreen, insect repellent, travel sickness tablets, sunglasses, insect bite gel.
  • We would recommend you for Clothing/walking/swimming gear to bring with you fleece/softshell, jacket, waterproof & windproof jacket, sun, hat, long trousers (wearing shorts is not permitted in monasteries and churches), shorts, swimming costume, extra towel for swimming, t-shirts, hooded tops, trainers/walking shoes, waterproof hiking shoes/boots, personal mattress or a sleeping bag (should you choose to sleep on the yacht’s sundeck), torch, umbrella, snorkelling mask and fins.
